CORONAVIRUS
Coronavirus
is a virus that causes respiratory infections, such as flu. Many people are
infected with this virus, at least once in their lives. Most coronaviruses are
harmless viruses. However, some types of coronavirus can also cause more severe
illnesses, such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV), Pneumonia, and COVID-19.
COVID-19 or also known
as the Coronavirus Novel, caused a pneumonia outbreak in the city of Wuhan,
China in December 2019, and spread to other countries to date. The cause of
COVID-19 is suspected by transmitted from bats and snakes to humans. However,
at the end of January, this virus has also been confirmed to be transferred
from human to human.
In general, coronavirus
transmission occurs through the air or droplet (viruses come out of those who
cough and sneeze without covering their mouths), touch or shake hands with
positive patients, touch the objects contained by the virus and then touch the
face (nose, eyes, and mouth) without washing hands.
Until now, there is no
vaccine to prevent coronavirus infection. However, there are at least several
ways that can be done to reduce the risk of contracting this virus such as
washing hands with soap and running water for 20 seconds, avoid touching the
face (nose, mouth, and eyes) with dirty hands, avoid meeting with sick people,
avoid areas where infections/outbreaks occur, clean items you often touch,
cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing with a tissue and wash your hands
immediately, stay at home if sick.
The whole world is also
implementing physical distancing by limiting activities outside the home and
contact with others. This is an effective way to reduce the risk of
transmission and flatten the COVID-19 pandemic curve.
